12V-220V-DC-AC-System

12V / 220V DC/AC System

This system provides both Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) electricity. This has several advantages in the DC lighting is more efficient, in the scenario you could power your lighting and water pump from the DC side and also run 220V appliances such as televisions and computers.

  • 1 - Battery
  • 2 - Solar (PV) panel
  • 3 - Solar Charge Controller
  • 4 - Wind generator
  • 5 - Wind Charge Controller
  • 6 - Inverter

230V-Alternating-Current-(AC)-System

220V Alternating Current (AC) System

This system include an inverter. An inverter converts Direct Current (DC) electricity from the Solar (PV) panels or the wind turbine, to Alternating Current (AC) electricty (230V). With the correct size inverter and electricity generation system, you can run any mains electricity appliance.

  • 1 - Battery
  • 2 - Solar (PV) panel
  • 3 - Solar Charge Controller
  • 4 - Wind generator
  • 5 - Wind Charge Controller
  • 6 - Inverter

Wood-Forge-Project-Going-Ahead

Previously I have mentioned a wonderful little project to supply off grid power to a Metal Casting Wood Forge Down the far south of England.

The new 140W Panel arrived today from the manufacturers. I am extremely impressed with the Solar PV Panels construction. Open circuit is 21.8V and will charge 2 x deep cycle SLA batteries at 12V. The Pure Sine Wave Inverter arrived late last week so I am currently contstructing the sub frame for the panel to be mounted on.

I'll be posting some pictures of the setup once it is installed at the forge some time soon.

BBC-Radio-Leeds-Steve-Bailey-Drive-Home-Live-Interview

2 Weeks ago I was contacted by BBC Radio Leeds (Steve Bailey). They had been looking with interest at all the work I have been doing relating to Off-Grid / Carbon Neutral Power production.

I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Steve Bailey on the Drive Home Spot at 5:30PM for 20 minutes. We spoke of the work I do providing Off-Grid power via Solar PV, Wind Turbine and Solar Heating, something we are all fast becoming experts in due to the ever increasing costs of Crude Oil. This effects everything in the modern world from Petrol & Diesel right down to the cost of grain, staple foods and transportation costs.

I hope some of you heard the program and enjoyed it as much as I did. I will be in Australia from Mid September 2008 for 5 weeks, I am going to visit family and also to make a decision as to weather or not to move out of the UK for good.

When I return Mid October Steve Bailey of BBC Radio Leeds has invited me back for another live interview to update him as to my decision on moving to Australia.

Chris-Driver-Proven-Wind-Turbine-Installation

CASE STUDY

Name: Chris Driver Location: Blackburn (UK)

Hobbies: Alternative Energy, Bio Fuel Production, Alternative Fuels For Engines, Diesel Engine Restoration, WVO As A Fuel, Fabrication & CHP.

Story By Andy Mahoney

I met Chris through http://www.homebrewpower.co.uk/ He shares many of my interests in alternative energy and sustainable energy. The thing that stood out to me about Chris was his genuine enthusiasm and interest into his hobbies, this trait has most probably developed from his profession in the police force.

I managed to drive out to meet up with Chris on the 13th of January 2007 to take a glimpse Into his achievements. The first thing that took me in awe whilst approaching his farm house was the 6KW Grid Tied Proven wind machine (Pictured) It is located adjacent to the main house and was in full swing the entire time I spent at his house. Watching such a machine in close proximity is something every enthusiast should try!

Chris encountered some problems with neighbours objecting to his turbine installation claiming that the noise would be excessive and that the shadows cast by the rotors would be problematic. On personally viewing his setup in action I can con-firm that the noise of the turbine is actually cancelled out by the sound of the wind itself and also the horses in the field adjacent do not seem to notice the turbine at all!

Chris explained that he was Looking into a future investment that would be beneficial later on in life, he finally chose to have the wind generator installed by Turbine Services http://www.turbineservices.co.uk/ The unit is a Proven 6KW Grid tied turbine which also back feeds the national grid in times of excess power generation.

Chris is very pleased with the installation and especially the after service received from Turbine Services. Any glitches with the setup have been addressed and resolved in a prompt manner. Whilst Chris is in his house he can monitor the performance of the wind turbine, the system came with an Electrisave wire-less power monitor, it shows constant readings of his power use and power generation at 1 second intervals.
